MedAustron is a specialized ion therapy center that began its work in 2011. The best doctors and technical specialists from 18 countries of the world are gathered here. The clinic was created for the treatment of oncological diseases by irradiation with heavy charged particles.
Such therapy is indicated for patients whose tumor does not respond well to treatment by other, more common methods. Or in cases where the neoplasm is located very close to radiation-sensitive organs. The most common diagnoses for which ion therapy is indicated are the following ones:
The irradiation procedure is absolutely painless. After the first consultation, the course and dose are prescribed. The patient is being examined in a CT machine, on the basis of which an accurate calculation of the procedure will be made. Then, individual auxiliary means are made for it, protecting healthy tissues and guaranteeing maximum accuracy of irradiation. The duration of the course depends on the disease and its stage.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again. If you need to go to MedAustron, at first this is not a positive sign, because, unfortunately, you are seriously ill. But when you have gone through the departments from the waiting room to the nurses, the radiotherapy department and, above all, the doctor, you can only feel good. Not only are they all trying their best and in a very positive mood, but you also have the feeling that you are here, we will do our best and it will be good. It's wonderful when the attending physician takes his time and explains everything accurately and expresses himself in a nice and polite human way (no God knows), as it often happens, but the doctor is out of passion and pure optimism. First of all, it's great to be able to get such a technique and treatment in Austria, even if SVA refuses treatment or takes on the costs here. Personally, I would definitely take this step again. I wish the MedAustron team all the best and, above all, that they can still help many patients. Thank you for your commitment and great support. M. Wiesinger
Our daughter was exposed to radiation for 6 weeks due to a brain tumor in Medaustron.
As soon as you enter the institute, you feel safe and, paradoxically, you feel comfortable there. The house / object is new, clean and bright. All the staff (reception, doctors, nurses, physicists, technicians, etc.) are very friendly and helpful. It's bad enough if you have to go there, but, unlike the outpatient department of the hospital, here you are treated like a person.
We were able to express requests for meetings, and, if possible, they were taken into account.
Even if we had to wait up to 3 hours from time to time, it wasn't too bad because we were told why and how long it would take. Then you also had the opportunity, for example, to go out to eat in the meantime.
The doctor in charge of my daughter is what you want and how it should be. Not a goddess in white, but obviously a passionate doctor. The first sentence was: "I want to get to know you better, you are a person, not an act." She answered all the questions at any time and was there for us. Thanks!

Fight a completely unexpected cancer with Medaustron. I can only view: HUT AB. Starting with the best and sensitive doctors/radiologists, a young and dynamic team in radiation rooms and, last but not least, a professional patient management team, everything is simply at the highest level. And above all, the whole team radiates such friendliness and competence that you can finally find HOPE again in a difficult time. And with the support of the most modern/most efficient technologies in the world, this hope also manifests itself. thank you very much!
In March, I was diagnosed with chordoma (less often cancer / tumor / sacrum). Radiation therapy was performed after a biopsy at the Vienna General Hospital from June to August 2018. A total of 37 times.
During this time, I was professionally supported and cared for, regardless of whether I was a doctor/radiologist, a patient management team, the entire radiation team..... always friendly, helpful and competent.
That time had a very positive impact on me. It is also worth noting that mineral water and fresh fruit are provided free of charge.
I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to visit Lower Austria.
