The University Hospital of Salzburg today is an association of six state medical institutions with more than three hundred years of history. The modern stage of the clinic's activity began in 2004, after the creation of the non-profit organization for the management of the state clinic of Salzburg (SALK) on the basis of the State Hospital of Salzburg, the Christian Doppler Clinic, the State Clinic St. Veit and the Institute of Sports Medicine. SALK works closely with the Private Medical University of Paracelsus.
The main areas of work of the Salzburg University Clinic are:
  • maxillofacial surgery;
  • clinical genetics;
  • pediatrics;
  • anesthesiology;
  • ophthalmology;
  • treatment of wounds;
  • pulmonology;
  • surgery;
  • dermatology, dermatooncology, allergology;
  • radiation therapy;
  • neonatology;
  • sports medicine;
  • pediatric radiology;
  • endoscopy;
  • medical consultations;
  • gynecology and obstetrics;
  • nuclear medicine;
  • vascular surgery;
  • orthopedics, traumatology;
  • radiology;
  • ENT;
  • cardiac surgery;
  • urology.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Private Medical University of Paracelsus, as well as the University of Paris-Lodron of Salzburg, the long-term experience of the staff of the University Clinic is constantly updated with advanced, effective treatment methods. The level of modern medical equipment is traditionally high for clinics in Austria.

Patient feedback on treatment:
University Hospital of Salzburg (Austria)

We publish only real reviews
My mother had knee surgery at this hospital, and all I can say is that she is extremely satisfied with all the services provided and the medical staff. Everything was highly professional, she was treated with care and patience, and, above all, she is happy and satisfied with the medical intervention.
He suffered a broken nose injury after a karate tournament in Salzburg. I stayed in this hospital for 4 days, and I had an operation where they fixed my nose while I was sleeping under anesthesia. Maintenance and operation couldn't be better. In general, the hospital facilities are excellent. Doctors and nurses are very responsive and professional.
My wife came in with severe pain in the back of her knee, which spread to her calves. She could barely walk. After the examination, she was examined for thrombosis. Nothing was found. Then the doctor said she needed to go home. The woman in white knew that she still couldn't walk. Apparently it doesn't matter. Otherwise, why would she just send my wife home without specifying what is broken in her knee??? Only after we vigorously demanded further examination did these people "approve" the examinations. What the hell is wrong with you doctors (not all!!)???? Obviously, the doctor wasn't interested in helping my wife. I will complete this procedure with a complaint to the management.
Today I had another meeting in the radiology department, and I must say that I am absolutely delighted with the good doctors and good hospital staff. So friendly and you feel incredibly comfortable. I can only say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you ❤ ❤ ❤
As Germans, we were in the Salzburg State Hospital for Outpatient Radioiotherapy. Because in Germany, radioiodotherapy mainly takes place in a hospital. The patient arrives at the quarantine station for a few days (at least 2) - for many, the idea of horror. In other European countries, treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis (Austria, Belgium, Denmark). So is the state clinic in Salzburg.

A referral from the attending physician in Germany is enough. In Salzburg you will find a very friendly staff, from a secretary to a doctor. The patient is prepared and informed in a few weeks by phone and email. Information sheets about risks and side effects (rare!), as well as behavior before, during and after therapy are sent by mail.

The process itself in the radiology clinic takes only a few minutes. After further oral explanation, the doctor gives you a capsule with a previously determined dosage of iodine-131, after which you can go home again. Since the patient now emits (slowly fading) gamma radiation for several days, he should avoid prolonged and close contact with other people for a week.

Despite the fact that this allows you to save a lot of money through outpatient treatment, our German state medical insurance company refused to cover the costs - we don't know why. Therefore, please specify this in advance or, like us, pay the cost of therapy (about 1100 euros), as well as travel and hotel yourself. Compared to being locked up in a German hospital, this is the best solution for us. Moreover, outpatient treatment is as pleasant as in the state clinic of Salzburg.
We felt that we were in safe hands in the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery. The whole team, doctors and nurses are really wonderful, both professionally and personally. We are very pleased that we have taken a longer journey to get the best possible treatment for our daughter.
Experience in maxillofacial surgery.

Last summer I was there for a few days for an operation, and a few months later for an examination. My experience is really positive, doctors, nurses, nurses, cleaners... very competent and pleasant. I felt very well and the treatment was wonderful. Thanks for that.
To add something to the poor ratings in other reviews regarding the long waiting time: please note that the staff there has been in an emergency for a year due to covid and is doing everything possible to help as best as possible and not only. The pressure is huge, and I'm glad that there are people who do this job anyway. Therefore, please show a little more understanding and refrain from negative feedback due to the long waiting time. This is a hospital where unforeseen situations constantly arise, so please take a little time and maybe smile and thank the staff.
The doctors and nurses were friendly, patient and competent, the lady at the front desk, unfortunately, to a lesser extent (if I am ignored for a few minutes, even if she is standing in front of me, I find it problematic).
The conditions on the spot were also not the best - the toilets were quite dirty, without paper and with urine analysis I had to run along the corridor, which was quite inconvenient.
Since I have to be treated very often, I have already met many departments and I must say that I am very happy with everything, doctors, nurses and nurses are just super. But what I think is wrong is partly the waiting time. Medical staff sometimes find themselves in the grip of a complete confrontation with patients. I understand the waiting patients and admire the doctors and nurses. Something has to change there
The treatment is very human, but doctors also have the necessary consequences to deal with stubborn patients like me.

In addition to the high level of professionalism, I am impressed by the simple and collegial cooperation between doctors, nurses and everyone else who works here.

I hope you can stick to high standards here.
